OpenText Documentum is a powerful enterprise content management system designed to manage and store vast amounts of digital content securely. In this blogpost, we’ll explore the top 6 functionalities of dqMan, our specialized administration tool, for managing your Documentum applications. From enhancing efficiency to streamlining processes, discover how our administration software dqMan can optimize your Documentum experience and drive productivity.
The dqMan OpenText Documentum Edition offers the possibility to maintain numerous DQL statements simultaneously within the editor. This enables users to easily navigate between various statements, so you can see all statements but select/execute only the one that you need for a more efficient DQL management.
Additionally, previously used commands that are no longer in the current window can be searched for and retrieved from the history.
Each connection/session has its own window, allowing each window to have its own DQL statements and history.
dqMan supports multiple concurrent sessions to the same repository or to multiple repositories. After a while, a DFC session expires. At this point, dqMan automatically creates a new DFC session for that window, thus saving you time and avoiding repeated logins without causing performance issues.
Expert tip: User and repository password combinations can be saved in dqMan (see Extras > Options > General > Login).
Do you need to modify attribute values? Just make sure that the results contain the r_object_id attribute, navigate to the attribute to be modified, and press F2. No matter if you want to modify single value attributes or repeating attributes, dqMan helps you to simplify the modifying process, directly within the results window:
Expert tip: dqMan now supports UTF-8 charset for displaying or updating values that contain special characters.
For creating reports based on query results and integrating data with other sources, export the data from dqMan in Excel or CSV format.
Expert tip: As dqMan does not use pagination in the Results window, you can select tens of thousands of results and export all of them in one go, so if you can display it in the Results windows, then you can export it.
Btw, you can find an overview of the functionalities dqMan offers for handling DQL queries and scripts on our dqMan OpenText Documentum Edition landing page.
Query results can be used to generate scripts for further activities. For instance, to add users from one group to another, create a query to retrieve the users from the first group, and generate the necessary DQLs to add them to the second group.
Selecting the results can be done as below:
Expert tip: The Results window can also be populated with external data by using the Extras > Import From File menu (dqMan makes no distinction compared to data loaded via executing DQLs).
In order to generate the script:
With the generated script you can:
Proactively, scripts can be generated just to revert to a specific point in time (e.g. CS upgrades usually require inactivating all the jobs so scripts can be generated to deactivate them before the upgrade and to activate them again afterwards).
Monitoring job execution can easily be done via other tools, but dqMan provides functionality for executing jobs and viewing comprehensive job reports, including historical reports. It can display all old job reports, which is useful for analyzing the execution of periodic jobs.
